The Andalusia case study for CLIMEMPOWER will be made up by the sub-region called “Western Costa Del Sol (WCDS)”. The study area comprises 11 municipalities (Estepona, Marbella, Mijas, Fuengirola, Torremolinos, Benalmadena, Manilva, Casares, Benahavis, Istan and Ojen) on the Spanish Mediterranean coast in Malaga Province.

In the first CoP meeting a total of 30 attendees have been registered. The stakeholders came from different institutions with complementary roles in climate resilience at municipal and regional levels.

Hazards identified by stakeholders closely align with the expected hazards of the region. Additionally, several pre-defined proposed solutions were presented, addressing most of these hazards, including pluvial flooding and sea level rise, forest fires, heatwaves, and drought. These solutions were further defined and discussed in detail to assess their usefulness.

The prioritized hazards identified by CoP stakeholders are Droughts, Forest fires, Desertification, Groundwater salinization, Pluvial flooding, Heatwaves.
